From the people who grow cacao to the makers who turn it into something we share, chocolate connects communities across borders. Next February, those connections will take center stage in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Cocoa Week is scheduled for February 22–28, 2027. The organizers have announced the theme “Financing the Future of Cocoa”—a timely question for a crop whose future depends not only on good harvests but also on the livelihoods and resources of the people behind them.

A week for the whole cacao community

The week brings together farmers and producer organizations, traders, researchers, chocolate makers, policymakers, finance specialists and chocolate lovers. The program announced by the organizers includes conferences, a trade fair, professional forums, workshops, tastings and a consumer chocolate festival.

The Chocoa Trade Fair is scheduled for February 24–26, while the Amsterdam Chocolate Festival takes place February 27–28. The consumer festival at the Beurs van Berlage offers a different way into the same conversation: discovering chocolate through makers, tastings and the stories behind its ingredients.

Why financing matters

Cacao may travel thousands of miles before becoming chocolate, but the challenges at origin cannot be separated from the finished product. Producers need access to capital to maintain farms, adapt to climate pressures, improve quality and plan beyond the next harvest. Buyers and makers face their own questions about prices, traceability and building long-term relationships.

The conference theme signals what organizers intend to discuss; it is not evidence that any particular financing solution has already been adopted or funded. The meaningful outcome to watch will be the partnerships, commitments and practical ideas that emerge from the meetings.

More than a trade show

At XOL, we see cacao as a way to bring people together, and gatherings like this make that idea tangible. A farmer's perspective, a chocolate maker's craft and a customer's curiosity all belong in the same conversation.
